If you’re like most Christians I know, you have made a genuine decision to follow Jesus. As a result, you are committed to serving at a church and winning people to Christ. You intentionally try to grow spiritually, sin less, and love God more. You want to leave a lasting legacy for others to follow.
But something is wrong.
It seems like no one is listening. Your closest friends still laugh when you bring up Christianity. You family member is still stuck in their powerless religion. Your rebellious children scoff at your attempts at holiness.
And you’re wondering why.
Honestly answer these questions:
- Do you fear that the most important people in your life will die without knowing Jesus- and there’s nothing you’ll be able to do about it?
- Do you feel inadequate to meet the high demands of ministry?
- Do you worry you won’t live up to the super-Christians of history who died martyrs and left glorious legacies behind?
You’re not alone
I understand how you feel. In fact, many of the “super-Christians” who have captivated droves with their biographies and written works and testimonies felt this way. But they all had a secret, which made them distinct from other Christians who lived mediocre, gray-scale lives…
That secret? First, they had a feeling of inadequacy. They understood that God often uses normal people to do His work. And often, the Spiritual Giants that we look up to often felt very small and weak. But they also understood another equally important fact: Weak does not equal worthless. Broken does not equal futile.
But before using these people, He inspired them, empowered them, equipped them, even in their brokenness and weakness. And guess what? He hasn’t changed. God prepared each one of those lives to do great things, and also does the same for you.
